These days, you won't find too many people yet to be bitten by the Melbourne plant-buying bug. If there's one thing we love, it's a dose of Mother Nature in the form of a leafy, green houseplant. And of course, that plant collection is a constant work in progress, because there is always room for one, two or seven more additions.

Thankfully, Melbourne's got a mighty offering of expert-run plant nurseries that are more than happy to help fuel your obsession for all things green. Whether you're looking to jazz up your abode with some fresh plant talent, hunting the perfect pot, or in need of a spot of sound advice, here's a round-up of Melbourne plant shops worth putting on your radar.

    With a soft spot for the greener things in life, Folia House is a much-loved destination for plant-aholics, stocked with a hefty range of seasonal and indoor varieties. Amongst its enviable curation, you’ll find a lush assortment of hanging plants, cacti, succulents, ferns and other potted greenery, as well as all the bits and pieces you’ll need to knock together your own terrarium.     This Cremorne plant store is so darn pretty, it doubles as an events space and wedding venue. Step through the doors of Glasshaus Inside and you’re met with a sprawling assortment of indoor plants, from wee little devil’s ivy, to rafter-kissing fiddle leaf figs. There’s big appreciation here for the rare and unusual, so it’s a solid choice if you’re hunting something a little bit different to add to your collection. Otherwise, you can just wander through the warehouse jungle for an easy dose of nature. And if your house is reaching peak capacity, you’ll also find a huge range of outdoor plants around the corner at Glasshaus’ Stanley Street outpost.

    An indoor plant shop and outdoor nursery in one, this cheery Brunswick East spot is a plant-lover’s dream. Owner Michael Khalil is a huge advocate for the positive effects of indoor plants on mental health and once you step through his jungle-like shopfront you’ll have a hard time disagreeing. There’s a plant and pot here to suit all shades of green thumb, every budget and any kind of house setting. A strong range of treatments, tools and potting mixes have been sourced from leading Aussie companies, and you’ll find lots of locally crafted green-inspired goodies, including ceramic planters from the likes of Melbourne’s own Chris Erlandsen Studio and Ella Reweti.

Alongside a nifty online store, you’ll find the flagship bricks-and-mortar space nestled within a huge Collingwood warehouse. The Melbourne plant shop is brimming with life, boasting a generous array of indoor plants, as well as a considered curation of books, accessories and homewares. The team also hosts a program of workshops and classes, from beginners’ tutorials covering the basics to a parent-child session designed to inspire mini green thumbs.

Owners Harris Mashood and Bowen Walker have filled their space with a covetable collection of greenery, pots and accessories.
